Learn To Play Ice Hockey

Ice Hockey is the fastest team sport in the world with almost 2 million players both male and female of all ages participating. It is a sport built on teamwork, discipline and speed, and from the moment a young player steps on the ice, they will begin to learn the skills of the game whilst having fun!

The benefits for children are numerous; not only will they improve their agility, strength and co ordination but ice hockey will also develop a child's self confidence, sportsmanship and self esteem. Most importantly, they will have fun in a positive, healthy and safe environment.

Blackburn Junior Hawks have been in existence for over 20 years and competes in all age categories of the National Leagues run by the English Ice Hockey Association. All of our on ice instructors and officials are qualified through the EIHA, have attended both first aid and child protection courses and are DBS/CRB checked. We are affiliated to the EIHA and hold Club Mark status with Sport England.

The Hawks Learn to Play Hockey (LTPH) programme is based on the International Ice Hockey Federations (IIHF) LTP model and is split into 5 distance elements to teach the basic ice hockey skills and provide the ultimate hockey experience for children. Our model of progression can take a young child all the way through to senior hockey, a real life progression learning many new sport and life skills along the way. Once players have completed the introductory and development programmes, they can progress to team training. For Under 10s, this is based on a model of practicing and playing cross ice (x ice) hockey. This is recognised as the best model for teaching young players with fun and enjoyment being a central theme to learning as they play.

To join the Learn to Hockey skate program you need to bebe able to skate at a NISA level 3. This level can be reached via out Learn To Skate lessons.
