Gillingham ice rink is delighted to announce it will be running free start to skate courses through Sport England’s Sportivate initiative starting on the 1st November at 5pm. Sportivate is a £32 million Lottery programme that gives 14-25 year olds access to six-week courses which are designed to provide a pathway into future participation in a sport.

Not only is it a chance for them to learn a new sport or improve on existing skills, but if they keep taking part after the course is finished, they could find themselves on their way to watch the London 2012 Olympic or Paralympics Games. All participants who complete their course, missing no more than one session, and keep playing the sport for at least another three months will be entered into a ballot for free London 2012 tickets.

Our courses are fully inclusive and targets all 14 -25 years old who can wear ice skates, including young people who have a disability, males and females, and people from BME groups. Gillingham ice rink is proud to confirm that alongside courses open to everybody it is also providing courses aimed specifically at young people with a learning disability on Tuesday’s at 11:30 am. All equipment is provided and the sessions are led be experienced coaches.

Gillingham ice rink has worked closely with local County Sports Partnerships to develop exciting, innovative courses delivered by highly trained and experienced coaches.

As well as providing participants the chance to win tickets for London 2012 we are proud to announce that everyone who attends 5 of the 6 sessions will be given free skating vouchers and discounts on our more advanced learn to skate courses.”
